Like a lot of boys his age, Alexander loves trains. He has his very own Thomas the Tank Engine setup in his room with more track, engines, and cars than he can fit on the table. We even built a table for the church nursery so he and his friends could have something they liked there. The only real problem with these wooden trains is that they don't move by themselves.
After seeing all the fun he had watching the Lionel layout in his Grandpa Cossairt's basement on our last trip, I asked my Dad if we could take his track and trains home with us. They have been sitting in storage for some time, but we got everything tested out and packed into two boxes for the ride home.
Now comes the fun part: building Alexander his own working train track. I'll be posting updates along the way to show our progress.
The first order of business was figuring out the transformer. The cord's insulation was a little iffy in places, so I replaced it with a new one and cleaned up the switch terminals. A little more cleaning on the outside, and it looks as good as new.
I found a scanned copy of the service manual online, so now I know exactly how to hook it up with the accessories. I checked all the voltages, ran the engine around a few times, and declared the transformer fit for service.
