Kangaroo Island

Due to the long day on Kangaroo Island and the full day of work, I'm a little late on this post. But here's some pictures from our day on the island.

We started off in Adelaide, where we boarded a bus for the two-hour ride to Cape Jervis. Then we took a 40-minute ferry to Penneshaw where another bus picked us up to drive us around the island,

Our first stop was at Seal Bay, home to a colony of Australian Sea Lions. The park ranger said they spend three days at sea hunting for food followed by three days on land sleeping. We saw one pup up close getting milk from its mother. Then we got to walk down on the beach within a few feet of the napping animals.

Our next stop was the Hanson Bay Koala Sanctuary. Once again, we had intermittent rain storms, so we took cover under some trees with a wallaby and some kangaroo.

Then we walked among the trees playing a game of "Spot The Koala".

Then we went to the far end of the island to Flinders Chase National Park where we explored the Remarkable Rocks, a granite formation carved by the wind and rain where it really felt like we were one step shy of Antarctica.

Then we went over to Admiral's Arch, a limestone arch (complete with stalactites!) that extended over some rocks favored by New Zealand Fur Seals. These guys were much more active than the Australian Sea Lions, and we had a good laugh at them frolicking in the water and fighting with each other.

Our day ended much like it began, with bus and ferry rides to take us back to our hotel. It was an exhausting but unforgettable day.
