Sally really did pick out a nice hotel, and we got one of the best rooms to stay in. It has a nice balcony that overlooks the creek, and we ate our breakfast out there today.
You may be able to tell from the picture that Laura was still running a fever this morning. Alexander was, too. So we postponed our hike for tomorrow and drove up Trail Ridge Road instead. The kids mostly slept, but Sally and I enjoyed the scenery on the way up. We got to the Alpine Visitor's Center a little after noon, and we managed to convince everyone to pose for one picture:
We decided to turn back there and eat lunch by the creek at the hotel. There was lots of road construction, so we didn't see nearly as many animals along the road as we're used to, but we did see a herd of elk in a field below us and these three up close:
After lunch, Laura started feeling better, so we all went for a walk through town. We window-shopped for souvenirs, and Laura really got into it. We also stopped for some fudge and some rock candy for Jessica. That really put the girls in a good mood.
Then we took them to the amphitheater next to our hotel. Laura showed off her dancing skills while Jessica sang. Jessica was very good about reminding the audience to clap when she finished.

We ate dinner at Poppy's, where Sally and I ate 10 years ago. The food was excellent, and the girls got in a little more playground time before we tucked them in bed.
